Paterson's Wé Ani impresses 'American Idol' judges with Adele cover, advances to Top 20
One of Paterson's own has reached pretty rarified air and is on the verge of reaching an even higher altitude.
Wé Ani, previously known as Wé McDonald, has made it into the Top 20 of ABC's "American Idol." And On Monday night, she will find out if she has made the Top 12.
On Sunday night's episode, Ani sang Adele's "Skyfall," impressing judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie yet again.
"You crush it every night," Bryan said of her performance.
Ani, a Paterson resident born in Harlem, previously sang Aretha Franklin's "Ain't No Way," which propelled her into the Top 24.

This is not Ani's first foray into the world of TV music competitions. In 2016, she finished third on "The Voice" when she was just 17 years old.
"Honestly, it's actually insane for me to be back on another national broadcasting stage," Ani said. "It feels fantastic to be able to connect with everybody again, and I get to perform every week which is amazing, and there are so many moments that we're going to be able to experience together again."
Ani's fate will be revealed Monday night when "American Idol" reveals the Top 12 beginning at 8 p.m.
