If you’re normal, when you were a kid you loved playing with Tonka trucks and the like, so this decommissioned US Military Unimog front loader and backhoe is right up your alley. The good news is this isn’t just a look and don’t touch vehicle but in fact is being auctioned online right now, so if you hurry you could become the proud new owner.
Historic military truck recovered after it was stolen off government land.
That’s right, this 1988 Freightliner Unimog FLU419 has been out of the armed forces since 2005 but still wears the drab camo for an extra cool aesthetic. Just think of how impressed your neighbors, especially the HOA board members, would be to see this thing parked in your driveway.
Imagine leading the neighborhood Fourth of July parade in this genuine military truck next summer. This thing basically oozes testosterone but it runs on diesel, with a powerful 5.7-liter Mercedes-Benz inline-six bolted up to a manual gearbox with dual-range transfer case.
This is one tough truck, able to traverse difficult conditions, clear land, and dig whatever trenches or holes you need dug. It even come with a snorkel for if you want to go some water crossings in it. Plus, with LED headlights and auxiliary lights, you can take this out in the middle of nowhere at night and see exactly what you’re doing.
In the United States Army this was of course an engineering vehicle. It would work great for anyone who has a lot of land to work, like a farmer, rancher, etc. Or you could get it as a giant toy or novelty item.
This Unimog looks to be in pretty good shape with new tires and all the equipment showing well in photos. But with the auction on Bring A Trailer coming to a close in a day, if you’re interested you better start bidding.
