A Chevy Colorado driver in New Hampshire is lucky to be alive after a random piece of metal flew through the air, penetrating his windshield right in front of his head. It’s the kind of freak accident most people don’t want to think about because there’s really nothing you can do to prevent it.

Suspect throws a spear through a woman’s windshield.

The man’s dashcam caught what happened and it’s scary. The piece of metal came flying off an open trailer being pulled in front of the Colorado. Spinning end over end, it landed just so, penetrating the guy’s windshield but thankfully not the driver’s head.

While the father told a local news crew his son kept his wits about him despite almost becoming a road casualty, we can’t help but notice the guy isn’t talking to the reporter. We don’t know how old he is, so perhaps that’s a factor, but it seems to us he might be shaken by the incident even if he doesn’t want to admit that to dad.

After all, even the father points out had the metal been traveling a little faster and hit the windshield at a slightly different angle, his son would’ve been killed and likely instantly. That’s not a fun thought to entertain.

Thanks to the dashcam, the other driver was identified and reportedly was apologetic about what happened. An apology is fine and all, but that doesn’t make his lack of securing the load on his trailer any less potentially lethal.

That should be the big takeaway from this story: secure any load in your truck bed or on a trailer. Even heavy items can go flying at highway speeds, becoming deadly projectiles. It’s worth taking a couple of extra moments to ensure nothing like that can come flying out, potentially changing lives forever.
