Random Shootings On Interstates Happen In Two Distant States

It’s not often we hear of random shootings on public roads, but they do happen now and then. That’s why news of a shooter who hit at least eight vehicles on an interstate in the Seattle area gripped many with fear. However, not too long after there was another incident of a shooter randomly firing at cars on the interstate in Kentucky, which is quite the coincidence.

Florida man punches other driver for complimenting his Dodge Challenger.

We’re not saying the two shooters are related or that anything led to both bouts of random violence. But it is a crazy coincidence that both men drove down the interstate in the area, shooting random vehicles, considering how rare something like that is.

The case out of Seattle unfolded on the night of September 2, with at least eight vehicles hit and five people struck, two of them suffering critical injuries. According to prosecutors, 44-year-old Eric Perkins drove up and down Interstate 5 in his white Volvo and fired into random cars. He’s facing nine counts of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to KOMO News, Perkins told police he thought he was being followed the night of September 2 and that some people had tried running him off the road. It’s possible intoxication and/or mental health issues played a role.

As for the case in Kentucky, at least 12 cars were shot on September 7 along Interstate 75 in the area south of Lexington, says Laurel County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Joseph Couch but he’s still at large. There’s a $15,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Authorities recovered Couch’s Toyota C-HR he apparently abandoned in the area of the shootings. Five people were seriously injured by the gunshots. Since Couch is considered armed and dangerous, the sheriff is counseling people living in the area to lock their doors and remain vigilant until the man is caught.

It’s just crazy two different men living so far apart decided to do something similar and yet so random. We hope Couch is caught and brought to justice soon.
