The very first car built on Ford's incredibly successful Fox platform was the 1978 Fairmont (and its Mercurized twin, the Zephyr). If we are to believe this magazine advertisement for the 1979 Fairmont, that car sold better than "any other new car nameplate ever," presumably including those in a row of noteworthy Fords from the 1896 through 1965 period.
