Yahoo Autos Recaro Bankruptcy Reportedly Halts Ineos Grenadier Production
Ineos recently paused production of the Grenadier SUV and Quartermaster pickup due to an issue with a parts supplier.
A new report shows that the insolvency of the German seat maker Recaro may have caused the stoppage.
Ineos expects full production to resume in early 2025.
Vehicle production is a tough undertaking that requires numerous businesses to work towards a common goal. Ineos recently proved just how tough a task that is by pausing production of the Grenadier SUV and Quartermaster pickup truck. A new report from Automotive News Europe suggests that the production pause may be due to Recaro's recent bankruptcy.
The famous German sports seat supplier filed for insolvency in July, four years after being purchased by a U.S.-based private investment company. While Ineos hasn't named the supplier at fault, Automotive News Europe reported that Recaro's insolvency may be to blame. "It's a trim part but one that we can't sell the car without," Ineos CEO Lynn Calder told AN Europe earlier this month. Calder also told the outlet that production could take until early 2025 to fix the core issue and resume production.
Both Ineos models defy the expectations of modern vehicles. They're engineered in Austria and built in France with old-school mechanics like a body-on-frame construction, recirculating ball steering, and solid front and rear axles. Both models feature a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six sourced from BMW. It produces 282 horsepower in the Grandier and 281 in the Quartermaster. Neither vehicle is built for speed, with Ineos setting the electronic speed limiter to just 99 mph.
Car and Driver reached out to Ineos for comment on the situation, but we did not hear back by the time of publishing. We will update this story if and when more information becomes available.
