Yahoo Autos Saleen's Building 1000-HP S7 Supercars Again
Back in 2000, a tuning shop known mostly for modifying Mustangs did something incredible. It introduced an ambitious supercar called the Saleen S7. At the time, it was one of the fastest cars in the world. But after nearly a decade, the S7 eventually finished production, and Saleen returned to tuning Mustangs. Today, though, Saleen announced it will bring back its supercar-albeit incredibly briefly.
The "new" S7 LM will be limited to a run of only seven cars. Each example will wear a unique black and silver paint scheme, as well as get a new interior, new wheels, and a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that's good for a claimed 1000 horsepower. That's nearly double the S7's original output but matches what was available with the Competition Package in 2006. Pricing has not yet been announced, but we can only assume it's one of those "if you have to ask" situations.
According to the release, the return of the S7 is to commemorate seven years of racing success between 1996 and 2002 when Saleen won a dozen championships across the globe. The move may also have something to do with Saleen's current financial situation: The tuner is facing a potentially costly lawsuit and recently claimed to have a mere $60,000 cash on hand.
Either way, it's great to see the S7 make a comeback. And who could complain about an American supercar making 1000 horsepower?
