New Season of Top Gear Starts May 29th in UK, May 30th in US

From Road & Track

We've known for a while now that BBC's reboot of Top Gear was set to arrive in May, but we didn't know an exact date. Lead host Chris Evans said last year that the show would premiere May 8th, but that day's already passed with no new show. Now, we finally know when we'll get to see Evans and crew's re-interpretation of the beloved show for real. [Update: Top Gear will premiere May 30 in the U.S.]

The BBC announced Wednesday that the new season of Top Gear will debut on May 29th in the UK and May 30th in the U.S., with a behind-the-scenes show titled Extra Gear immediately to follow. Thanks to an endless stream of trailers released by the BBC, we know the new Top Gear will continue to feature the sort of shenanigans that defined the show in the Clarkson/Hammond/May era.

In its announcement, the BBC said that the new hosts (all six of them) filmed the upcoming season over a period of six months, visiting nine countries and racking up 7500 miles of driving in the process. The timing of the announcement is interesting, as Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May just announced the name of their upcoming Amazon show today as well. Coincidence?

It should be a busy TV-watching weekend for car enthusiasts, as the show debuts just one day after the Indy 500.
