  • BMW showed a few glimpses of the 2021 M3 sedan ahead of its debut.

  • We can see that it's painted green, has an aggressive-looking rear end, and features a six-speed manual transmission.

  • The M3 and related M4 coupe will both debut on September 23.

The new BMW M3 and M4 are just around the corner, and BMW M's instagram page has provided us with a few sneak peeks of the M3 in an interesting shade of bright green. A set of Instagram stories shows a bit of the M3's front end, rear end, and—most importantly—the shift knob for its six-speed manual transmission.

The new G80-generation M3 and M4 will make their debuts September 23, and they're expected to share engines with the X3 M and X4 M SUVs. That means the standard models, which will be available with rear-wheel drive and the manual transmission, should have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with 473 horsepower. All-wheel drive will be offered for the first time on an M3, and a Competition version will pack 503 horsepower and come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

As we've seen in spy photos, both the sedan and coupe will feature the face first seen on the new 4-series, with tall kidney grilles that are sure to create controversy. Otherwise, they'll have widened bodies compared with their non-M counterparts, along with larger exhaust tips, wider wheels and tires, and the extra vents and air intakes typical of M cars. There will also be a wagon version, the M3 Touring, but sadly we won't get that model in the U.S.

We're looking forward to finding out all the details and specs of the new 2021 BMW M3 and M4, so check back here in a few days to get the full download.
