  • Sesame Place is opening a new theme park in San Diego, California.

  • The opening will take place in March 2022.

  • Single-day tickets and annual passes are already on sale, and visitors get a discount if they purchase pre-opening.

Can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street? If you wanted to visit the iconic 123 Sesame Street in real life, it used to require a trip to Pennsylvania: The Sesame Place amusement theme park had just one location in Langhorne, outside of Philadelphia. But that's no longer the case.

The Sesame Workshop and SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has announced that they're opening a second park, Sesame Place San Diego, in San Diego, California. (Consider the next family vacation destination sorted!) Soon, West Coast families and visitors will be able to enjoy the same character meet-and-greets, family-friendly rides and fun water attractions that park-goers in Pennsylvania have loved since 1980. Here's all you need to know about the opening of the new park.

Sesame Place San Diego will open on March 26.

The best news is that there won't really be a long wait in the run-up to the park opening. It's already set and ready to go, and the opening will take place on Saturday, March 26.

When it opens, the 17-acre park will be home to 18 Sesame Street-themed rides (including Elmo's Rockin' Rockets, a favorite if you love his Flyin' Fish in Pennsylvania), a musical play area, an interactive Sesame Street Neighborhood and a 500,000-gallon wave pool, among other water attractions. There will also be daily character meet-and-greets, live shows and parades. If you hop over to the famed 123 Sesame Street stoop, you may be able to see Elmo at his bedroom window, and stop by for a song or dance (and if you buzz the apartment buzzers, you might hear responses from Grover, Rosita and Abby Cadabby). Then, when it gets hot, you can throw on your suits and head down Big Bird's Rambling River an innertube.

Sesame Place San Diego is also a Certified Autism Center, as designated by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards. That means the staff receives extra training to make sure the day is a sunny one for all kids.

Tickets are already on sale, and there are promotions with pre-opening prices.

If you're sure to visit Sesame Place San Diego at some point this year, it pays to buy your tickets now: There's special pre-opening sale going on, and single "Any Day" tickets are just $50. (Children ages 23 months and younger are free.) The deal only lasts until February 21, though, and then the prices go up to $80 per ticket.

Or, if you know that you'll definitely be a repeat visitor, annual passes are on sale for $129 – $282, depending on what level of membership you choose. The $129 "silver" season pass includes unlimited visits, two free guest visits, free parking and 20% off in-park purchases; the $165 "gold" tier bumps it up to four guest tickets, closer parking and 30% off purchases; and the $282 "platinum" tier also increases those perks and allows admission into 11 other theme parks. These prices are also expected to increase after park opening. The annual pass holders will also be the first ones to get to experience the park, with exclusive invites to character meet-and-greets, photo opportunities, park collectibles and more (and if there's anything with Grover on it, save it for us).
