Is This The Slowest Police Chase Ever?

We’ve seen people use all kinds of interesting strategies when they’re trying to give police the slip in a chase, but this is the first time we’ve seen someone just drive super slow. This guy did just that with Flagler County Sheriff’s deputies in pursuit, all of them crawling about as fast as you could probably walk.

Guy swerves to avoid a deer, causing a much bigger crash.

This happened back on US 1 on September 25 with the whole thing captured on dashcam footage we’ve shared. The suspect crawls along in his Kia crossover on the highway as deputies maintain a bit of distance and follow behind, probably wondering what the guy’s deal is.

Considering it’s raining, the fact the suspect is keeping things as a slow pace is a good thing. After all, we’ve seen plenty of chases literally go sideways thanks to the rain.

But it looks like this guy might have been running hard before. After all, part of his rear lower valance is hanging off, something that often happens in high-speed chases or when suspects go over taller curbs.

For whatever reason he’s going slow at this point. But he decides to cross the bare, grassy median and start going the other direction. Then he just veers off onto the shoulder as a supervisor tells the deputies to give the suspect more space.

There’s obviously more going on than just what we’re seeing in the footage. That missing information might explain why deputies are super courteous as the guy surrenders. It’s just such a bizarre situation.

After this incident, an official announcement from the sheriff’s office called this “possibly the slowest chase in FCSO history.” The suspect never exceeded 20 mph and at most points was going about 3 mph, which is what a vehicle will creep at if you just don’t press the brake pedal.

According to local news station WAFB, the suspect had been involved in a hit-and-run accident with injuries, so he was obviously going faster before.
