Yahoo Autos Somebody Save This Poor Wrecked Lexus LFA From Sitting in a Copart Salvage Yard
Few modern cars are as legendary as the Lexus LFA. Built in extremely limited numbers and only for a single model year, every bit of its design is noteworthy. Sadly, this one left a wet roadway in January and ended up a total loss. Now, it's going up for auction and someone needs to save it.
Built like every other LFA, this supercar features a 4.8-liter V-10 that makes 553 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. It sends that power to the rear wheels only via a six-speed automated manual gearbox. Those numbers are important but even more important is just how detailed Lexus was in designing and building this car.
The body panels are fiberglass but with special micro balloons to save weight. The engine sits so low that its top is beneath the tops of the tires. The center of gravity in the LFA is lower than in a Toyota GR86. It held the production car lap record at the Nurburgring for a time. When new, it cost $375,000 and today good ones go for seven figures. No doubt, it's a true legend.
If those details are enough for one to want to save this damaged vehicle consider this; it was daily driven by a true enthusiast who shared it with others. He'd bring it out in the rain, he'd let his kids climb all over it at Cars and Coffee, and he'd let fans even sit in the six or seven-figure supercar. It deserves to live, but its savior will still need a lot of cash when it goes to auction. Copart lists its estimated value at $710,000.
That’s despite the significant damage done to the rear of the car, the passenger-side door, and the driver’s side rear quarter panel. There are no notes regarding whether or not it still runs properly. The accident happened over six months ago though so it’s been sitting for a while. Hopefully, some wealthy benefactor can come along and salvage one of the most important supercars of the modern era.
