Someone Parked a Ferrari SF90 in the Middle of an NYC Intersection
Money can make people do strange things. Case in point: A 2023 Ferrari SF90 Stradale driver created a bit of a stir this week after leaving their supercar parked and unattended — with the windows down, no less – in the middle of a busy New York City intersection. The car, worth in excess of half a million dollars, sat for an extended period of time before it was later spotted speeding through town with its booming exhaust on full display.
Our first look at the incident was posted to the r/NYC subreddit by user alfanumerico, who provided Road & Track with more details of the situation. The user told R&T that they first noticed a traffic pile up while out walking with their friend on the evening of Thursday, September 12th, with dozens of cars waiting to clear the intersection of Third Avenue and St. Marks Place in Manhattan's East Village. As the duo closed in, they realized the Italian supercar was responsible for the backup. Nobody was inside the Ferrari at the time, alfanumerico said, but the windows were open — only raising further questions. The Reddit user believes the explanation is fairly straightforward, however.
“[It was] presumably some entitled prick who left their car in the intersection to attend to some matters and came back later,” the user told R&T.
After capturing images of the car sitting unattended in the middle of the East Village, alfanumerico spotted the car once more later that evening.
“We were eating at the [Cooper Triangle] park when we saw that car rev up and zoom down 3rd Ave," the user said. " [We] didn't get to see the driver.”
Fellow Reddit users also claimed to have spotted the Ferrari in question as of late, easily identifiable by its Delaware plate. The car is reported to be quite loud, a feature that alfanumerico noted in his chat with R&T. It doesn’t appear that the car has had much trouble with the city’s noise restrictions, however; How's My Driving New York highlights only two tickets related to the SF90, both speed camera violations — including one the following day just a mile from their former parking spot. It's worth noting that the tickets have both been paid; that said, it’s clear this Ferrari driver isn’t all that concerned with the rules of the road.
As a reminder: a sports car doesn't not come with special privileges. Be responsible and respectful, or you run the risk of painting all of us gearheads in a bad light. That’s not something we need in New York City.
