Scott Dixon became just the fifth driver in the 105-year history of the Indianapolis 500 to win at least four pole positions for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

This will the first time since 2017 that the six-time champion will lead the field to green.

Dixon executed the fifth-fastest qualifying time in race history on Sunday as part of Fast Nine Shootout. His speed of 231.685 mph trailed only Tony Stewart (233.1 mph), Roberto Guerrero (232.482), his own speed from 2017 (232.164) and Helio Castroneves (231.725) in race history.

"I didn't expect the speed that we had on the first day," Dixon said after winning the Fast Nine. "It's been a little while since I had a pole, so it's nice to get it here."

Dixon has just one win in the Indianapolis 500, coming from the pole in 2008 during the 92nd running.

Rick Mears has the most Indianapolis 500 poles with six in 1979, 1982, 1986, 1988, 1989 and 1991. Rex Mays is the youngest pole winner in race history and has four in 1935, 1936, 1940 and 1948. Dixon joins AJ Foyt with four that came in 1965, 1969, 1974 and 1975. Helio Castroneves also has four in 2003, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Dixon claimed pole in 2008, 2015, 2017 and 2021.
