A piece of Detroit history has been passed to another automotive executive this week.

Stellantis North America COO Mark Stewart purchased the Fisher Mansion from former General Motors executive Dan Ammann for $4.9 million, making it the most expensive real estate sale the city has ever seen, Crain's Detroit Business first reported Wednesday. The architect for the Palmer Woods mansion was George Mason, and his apprentice, Albert Kahn, designed, among other structures, the Fisher Building.

"They (new owners Stewart and Antonio Gamez Galaz) have long been passionate about its architecture and are excited to become part of the city’s renaissance by making Detroit their home," a statement from Stellantis reads. "They look forward to preserving this piece of automotive history for years to come."

The mansion has long ties to the automotive industry. It was built for Alma and Alfred Fisher, one of the owners of the Fisher Body Co., the world's largest manufacturer of auto bodies in the 1910s.
