Stolen Car Hits Family In Truck

Tense moments passed as a family with young children traveling in Ford Ranger were hit by a stolen car and trapped inside the truck. It’s yet another example of how car theft can affect you even if your own ride isn’t swiped.

The incident, which happened in Queensland, Australia recently, was covered by 9 News Australia. Footage taken on the scene shows the aftermath of the wreck, the Ranger pushed off the road and into a fence. The stolen car was abandoned in the middle of the road, its front end smashed and the driver-side front axle obviously broken.

Neighbors who came out after hearing the crash realized the people inside the Ford truck were trapped. They worked to wrench the doors open, allowing the family to finally get out of the wreckage. We can’t imagine how scary of a situation that was, especially for the little kids.

One of the parents and a child were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. The crash could’ve been so much worse. We’ve seen collisions involving stolen vehicles where other drivers and passengers don’t walk away.

This is just one of many reasons why we believe out of control car theft rates cause far more problems than most people realize. Too many wrongly believe if their ride isn’t swiped they’re okay. But they are affected, if not by being hit by someone driving a stolen vehicle than by skyrocketing insurance rates, parts shortages, boosted rides being used to commit other crimes, and funds generated by the sale of stolen cars going toward drug and human trafficking.

Authorities are still looking for the driver of the stolen car. We hope he’s found and held accountable.
