The Studebaker Avanti Mixes European Styling with American Ingenuity

From Road & Track

The Avanti was the car that almost saved Studebaker. It was extremely forward-thinking, and the American consumer fell in love with its beautiful design. People flocked out en mass to buy the Avanti, only to be turned away at the dealership. Why? Because Studebaker couldn't figure out how to make enough to meet demand.

So, the company fell under, leaving the Avanti as its last hurrah to the world. Studebaker only built fewer than 6,000 examples, but Jerry Seinfeld managed to get his hands on one in seemingly perfect condition. Equipped with a 4.7L V8 and a 3-speed auto, this Avanti is a great way to pick up legendary comedian and actor, J.B. Smoove, for a cup of coffee.

Smoove says this is his favorite car, yet he's never even ridden in one. Jerry's here to make JB's dreams come true, showing him all the quirks and characteristics of the strange Studebaker.

"It mixes European styling with American ingenuity," JB says. He's a bit of a car guy himself, so putting these two characters together make for another worthwhile episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
