  • Arcane Works, Ineos Automotive's new customization division, reveals limited-edition Grenadier Detour with exclusive materials and details inside and out.

  • The Grenadier Detour models, which will be limited to 200 units, will feature unique 18-inch forged alloy wheels, a choice of four exterior colors, satin finish elements inside, and quilted leather seats in a choice of four Bridge of Weir fine-grain leathers.

  • Following reveal of the debut Grenadier Detour model at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Arcane Works plans to offer performance upgrades for the SUVs in the future.

The Grenadier may have started out as a vision of a rugged, vintage Land Rover Defender with few creature comforts, but a couple of years after production began we're approaching luxury territory. Ineos used the Goodwood Festival of Speed to take the wraps off a limited-edition Grenadier Detour from its newly formed Arcane Works division.

This version of the SUV will take advantage of extensive customization options offered by the company's new unit, promising bespoke design elements inside and out. The vehicle unveiled at Goodwood, therefore, is a showcase of what the new personalization arm will offer clients.

"For our first launch, Grenadier Detour felt like a fitting name as the Grenadier is for people who enjoy driving, and sometimes it's worth taking the longer route," said George Ratcliffe, Commercial Director of Ineos Automotive.

Just how will this version stand out?

First, the Grenadier Detour will wear a unique grille with headlight surrounds exclusive to this model. The Detour will also feature special 18-inch forged alloy wheels, with Arcane Works also offering an exterior contrast pack in addition to four new exterior colors that will be exclusive to this model: Magma Red, Whiteout Blue, Squall Green, and Storm Force Silver.

On the inside, the Grenadier Detour will feature a choice of two satin finishes for the doors, air vents, and transmission tunnel. Laser-etched scuff plates will also be part of the standard interior items, along with badging created by jewelry specialist Vaughtons.

The quilted leather seats, meanwhile, will be offered in a choice of four Bridge of Weir fine-grain leathers, while two cashmere options will be on the menu for the headliner, from Johnstons of Elgin.

The Grenadier Detour will also sound different from the standard models, as Ineos will fit BMW 3.0-liter inline-sixes with a modified exhaust system.

In addition, Arcane Works will offer buyers the option of a custom color matching option for the exterior.

"Working in small-batches and hand finishing the cars means we can give a level of individuality not found in the 4X4 market," Ratcliffe added.

Just 200 Grenadier Detours will be built, the automaker says, without mentioning the starting price. However, even the base Grenadier's starting price ($73,100) already places it into a somewhat elite category among SUVs.

The company's personalization arm plans to offer other upgrades in the future, including ones aimed at performance. Of course, there is no shortage of aftermarket parts for BMW inline-sixes at the moment, allowing buyers to attempt their own performance mods as well.

Will the Grenadier continue to drift into luxury territory, or should the company stick to more spartan versions of its models? Let us know in the comments below.
