A man in Memphis, Tennessee was shot at when he confronted an alleged car thief after arranging a meeting through Facebook Marketplace. We don’t recommend doing this sort of thing since many criminals carry weapons and aren’t afraid to use them for any perceived threat.
Memphis woman’s stolen car auctioned off by police.
This man was upset after his 17-year-old daughter bought a Nissan Maxima from the thief not too long before, paying $5,800. But it was revealed the sedan was stolen, so it had to be surrendered to authorities.
Angry about being out the money, the man found the same seller on Facebook Marketplace, acted interested in one of his listings, then arranged to meet in a local restaurant’s parking lot. That turned into a confrontation which ended in gunfire.
According to Fox13 Memphis, the victim had called police, requesting they be present for the planned transaction. They arrived and the suspect took off, blowing through a red light. Officers said their pursuit policy wouldn’t allow them to give chase.
Undeterred, the victim set up another buy for another Maxima. At that meeting he asked for the title and VIN for the Nissan. That’s when another car pulled up and started shooting, thankfully missing him.
We’re thinking the third time the seller recognized him and had backup in case police showed up. This demonstrates how bold car thieves have become in cities like Memphis where law enforcement is hobbled and criminals have free run of the place.
Like we said before, we don’t recommend confronting car thieves in any situation, whether they stole your ride or sold you one that’s stolen. You’re probably not going to get anything from them other than hot led coming your direction since that’s about the only language some of these guys understand.
