Tesla's New, Cheapest Model X Costs $74,000 With a 200-Mile Range

From Road & Track

Tesla has just dropped a new battery option for its Model X SUV. Dubbed the Model X 60D, it's now the cheapest way to get into a Tesla crossover, at a starting price of $74,000.

The Model X 60D, which saves you $9000 over the 75D, still has its dual-motor all-wheel drive, sending 325 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. It gets from zero to sixty in six seconds, and has a top speed of 130 mph.

Like the cheapest Model S Sedan, the Model X 60D uses the same 75 kWh battery unit as the now-midrange 75D-the cheaper model's battery output is software-limited to a range of just 200 miles. If you want your brand-new Model X to use all of its battery's capabilities, the upgrade only adds about 37 miles of range according to Tesla. For buyers who wish to upgrade after the fact, it'll cost $9500.

The Model X 60D sounds like it's aimed at the Tesla buyer who doesn't want to drop six figures on a family hauler, or smoke supercars on the drag strip. Unsurprisingly, Ludicrous mode is not an option on this trim.

The Model X 60D is available to order immediately via Tesla's website, or, if you don't use the internet for some reason (how are you even reading this?) at one of Tesla's showrooms.
