There's plenty of great gymnastics talent in RI; here are the 2021-22 Providence Journal All State First and Second teams

Here are the 2021-22 Providence Journal All-State Gymnastics First and Second teams. The six players selected to the first team will be nominees for Player of the Year at this spring's Rhode Island High School Sports Awards, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island.

Nominees will be honored at the live show and all the nominees can receive a free ticket to the show. Check back soon for information on how to RSVP to the show.

The All-State Rhode Island High School Sports Awards is part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, the largest high school sports recognition program in the country.

First Team

Riley Bromage

Sophomore, Warwick Co-op

After a stellar state meet that helped Warwick win the co-op’s first state title, Bromage makes her debut as an All-Stater. The sophomore finished second in the bars, third on the beam and third on the floor as she finished in fourth place in the All-Around standings.

Sophomore, Coventry

A second-teamer as a freshman, Dowling took a big leap this season and earned her spot on the first team. Dowling had a spectacular state meet, finishing third in the All-Around competition. She medaled in all four disciplines, including a second-place finish on the beam.

Warwick Co-op, Sophomore

Long was a key contributor to Warwick’s state championship and, with a gold medal and top-six finish in the all-around, earned her second straight spot as a first-team All-Stater. Long won the floor exercise and also medaled in the vault with a fifth-place finish.

Wheeler, Junior

She doesn’t have a team but it doesn’t stop Nostramo from competing and winning big. The high-flying junior, who represents the Warriors as an individual, defended her state title in the vault and finished third on the uneven bars to make the first team for the second straight year.

An injury had Priest unsure whether she’d be able to compete at the state meet, but the junior worked hard at her rehabilitation and defended her championship in style. With a win on the bars and a second-place finish on the floor, Priest totaled 37.30 points to best Barrington’s Shaye Robinson by .35 and made her third straight appearance as a first-team All-Stater.

Shaye Robinson

Barrington, Junior

After opting out of last season, Robinson returned to form this winter and makes her second appearance as a first-team All-Stater. She finished second in the All-Around at the state meet after winning the beam and medaling in the bars and the floor exercises.
