Thieves Steal Corvette And Camaro In Dramatic Dealership Heist

The trend of thieves breaking into dealerships in the dead of night and stealing whatever cars they want continues. A case out of Maryland saw three men not only bust into a Gettysburg Chevy dealer’s showroom by breaking one of the windows, they ended up using an Equinox as a battering ram when they couldn’t open the doors before driving a C8 Corvette and Camaro ZL1 through the shattered mess.

In the process of mowing through the doors, the Evening Sun reports another Equinox and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle were damaged. It’s not like the thieves cared. After all, they were able to escape with almost $150,000 worth of vehicles in minutes, likely believing they were home free.

The only problem is they’ve been caught and charged, and not just for this dealership heist, which happened back in April. Authorities say they’ve tied 18-year-old Jefferson Ventura and 19-year-old London Flores to similar burglaries at other dealerships in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

What helped make that connection was the sloppy work of Ventura and Flores. After the Chevy dealership heist, OnStar shut off the C8 Corvette and located it in Silver Spring, Maryland, reports Evening Sun.

When police arrived, they found the mid-engine sports car under a tarp and wearing a Pennsylvania plate taken in another dealership burglary that also happened in April. It’s like these kids didn’t realize license plates are incredibly traceable, like that’s the whole point of them.

As more law enforcement agencies in both states jumped into the investigation, Pennsylvania State Police obtained a warrant for cell phone tower data in the area of one heist, connecting the pair to that crime. Other agencies did the same thing and so more evidence was gathered.

Basically, it comes down to some kids thinking they were smarter than car dealers and law enforcement. While they got away with their crimes for a bit, eventually they left enough of a trail of breadcrumbs they were caught and ow they’re facing a long list of charges. Currently, they’re in a Maryland jail and are being held without bond as they await their legal fate.
