Yahoo Autos Thieves in a Stolen Ferrari 488 Elude Police for 1200 Miles
Two armed men stole a 2018 Ferrari 488 Spider during a home invasion in Rhode Island on Saturday. The car was then spotted by various police agencies, but the thieves evaded capture each time as they sped off, reaching speeds over 130 mph. The stolen car was eventually recovered about 1200 miles away in Florida, per the Cranston Police Department.
The home invasion took place on August 24 around 3 am in Cranston, Rhode Island. Two armed men entered through an unlocked door and demanded the keys to the Ferrari as well as a Corvette the victim also owned. Police believe the victim was targeted specifically because of the high-end cars. When forced to make a decision, the thieves left the Corvette behind and decided to steal just the Ferrari.
At that point the chase was on, and the crooks were determined to use every one of the 660 horsepower that the Ferrari has available. A Rhode Island State Trooper was the first to spot the blue Ferrari that is worth north of $250,000. The driver led police on a high-speed chase from Rhode Island through Connecticut and eventually lost them. Later the same night New York State Troopers spotted the car and had their turn to try to stop it. But once again the powerful Ferrari was too much, and the suspects got away.
The car was not seen again until it made its way to Florida where a member of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Department spotted it. Another high-speed pursuit ensued and this time the police called in a helicopter to aid in the chase. Eventually the Ferrari was found hidden under a tarp at a local residence. Police took one of the suspects into custody and are working to capture the second alleged thief.
The two suspects are young men, aged 20 and 18 years old. The appeal of driving a Ferrari Spider down the east coast was, apparently, too strong for them to ignore. Unfortunately, they chose to go about living out that dream in the worst way possible, and both are going to be in serious legal trouble.
