Video: 771-HP Porsche Panamera Hybrid Laps the 'Ring in 7:24.17 Minutes
The new Porsche Panamera has lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7.24:17—that's 5.6 seconds faster than its predecessor.
The yet-to-be-named model will sit atop the Panamera Turbo lineup and feature a hybrid V-8 powertrain.
The top-spec Panamera was fitted with the car's new Active Ride suspension as well as the optional carbon-fiber aero kit and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
UPDATE 7/19/24: With the reveal of the 2025 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, the company has revealed that it was the car that set the 7.24:17 'Ring time. Porsche has also released a video on YouTube of driver Lars Kern setting the lap time.
The Porsche Panamera has set a new precedent for how fast the luxury sedan can go around the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife. Porsche today announced that the yet-to-be-named top-spec Panamera model has circled the 12.94-mile track in 7.24:17 minutes. The automaker also said that time is nearly six seconds faster than its predecessor, which is likely the Turbo S E-Hybrid.
New Panamera at the 'Ring
The Panamera's fastest lap time was set with driver Lars Kern behind the wheel. While Porsche says this car represents the new top-of-the-line model, it hasn't yet released the official name. However, we think it's a good bet that it'll be the newest iteration of the Turbo S E-Hybrid, which wasn't detailed when the redesigned Panamera was revealed last fall.
Other than mentioning that the vehicle was powered by a hybrid V-8 powertrain, Porsche didn't specify a horsepower figure. We know the new Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 and a hybrid system that together generate a combined 670 ponies. But we suspect that the version that lapped the 'Ring is even mightier, potentially something in the neighborhood of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo E-Hybrid's 729 horsepower.
While we don't yet know its name or how powerful it is, we do know that the top-spec Panamera that set the 7.24:17 lap time was equipped with the new Active Ride suspension. The latter includes single-chamber air springs and hydraulically linked cylinders. Along with the optional carbon-fiber aerodynamic kit, the sedan was fitted with a set of optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that measured 275/35ZR-21 in the front and 325/30ZR-21 in the back.
