We don’t recommend running from police ever, but we definitely wouldn’t recommend doing it in  something like a Toyota Corolla. While the little compact cars will run for a long time under normal operating conditions, they’re not engineered for outrunning pursuit-rated police cruisers like what Florida Highway Patrol uses.

Watch a Honda Civic get pitted hard running from police.

The guy driving this Corolla on Instate 4 in Florida apparently didn’t realize he was in the automotive equivalent of a wind-up car compared to the trooper’s Dodge Charger. He really went for it after being caught speeding, displaying all kinds of confidence but with not much to back that up.

First, he goes for a fake-out on pulling over and complying with the lawful traffic stop. So many people do this these days it’s just not effective, yet the guy tries it anyway.

Then he runs, pushing that little four banger for all it’s worth, which honestly isn’t much in a pursuit situation like this. The FHP trooper has no problem keeping up, yet our plucky suspect just keeps going for it like he has the cop on the ropes.

After a short chase, the trooper PITs the little Toyota causing it to do a 180-degree turn. Then it flips around partway, rear-ending the concrete retaining wall. Even with the hard hit and rear damage, the suspect drives off, flooring it so the Corolla slowly makes a getaway.

We kind of admire the dogged determination of this guy. He has no chance of successfully escaping the trooper and yet he keeps trying anyway. Or he’s just too dumb to know when he’s beat.

The trooper not only catches up to the Corolla, he passes it and starts trying to toy with the suspect that way. But the Toyota slips around the cruiser, then takes a right turn sloppily probably because of collision damage, allowing the trooper to do a hard PIT, finally ending a chase which was over from the beginning, just the suspect driver didn’t realize it.
