Toyota Dealership's Viral Tiktok Roasts the Tesla Cybertruck
The Tesla Cybertruck has been a darling of social media from the moment the concept vehicle's windows shattered on stage at its reveal. Since it's entered production, the Cybertruck has become an established influencer-mobile — and partly as a result, the truck has also caught plenty of flak from more traditional truck fans. That sentiment has even found its way into the world of car sales, as a Toyota dealer in Mississippi is going viral for absolutely roasting the Tesla truck on TikTok.
The video comes by way of the lovely folks at Toyota of Hattiesburg, located just over an hour south of Jackson, Mississippi. The TikTok pits the features of the Californian battle tank (as featured by clips of influencer TechieDani) against that of the more traditional Toyota Sequoia SUV in deadpan style.
It’s a cute video that pokes fun at Tesla owners’ ability to make every feature seem truly revolutionary. Dealership social media manager Eli Sparrow told Road & Track that the video was inspired by a few other clips that they had come across on Facebook, clearly leaning into the “MomTok” style.
The video kicks off with Cybertruck driver TechieDani explaining why the Tesla is the ultimate family vehicle for a mom. The positives start with the truck’s large bed, highlighting the waterproof storage provided by rolling tonneau cover. A quick duet cut to a dealership employee reminds the viewer that SUVs also enjoy large amounts of waterproof storage. TechieDani then explains that the Cybertruck’s doors open a full 90 degrees for easy child seat access; the Toyota of Hattiesburg rep then proves the Sequoia is also pretty competent in that department. The Tesla’s second-row seating room receives a complement from its advocate; then, the Sequoia shows off its third row of adult-size seating. The real highlights come towards the end, when we witness a comparison between the Tesla tote bag and “secret” storage locations — which, it turns out, are also present in the Toyota in the form of its footwell and glovebox.
The video has managed to strike a chord online, garnering tens of millions of views across TikTok, X, and Facebook. “It’s absolutely blown up over the last couple of days,” Sparrow told R&T. "It’s kinda crazy. Even the person that was in our video is already getting recognized. They’re like ‘hey, you’re that Cybertruck bully!’”
Sparrow further noted that almost all of the comments on the dealer’s TikTok are anti-Cybertruck, while the folks over on X have responded very differently. (The dealership team chocks that up to Elon Musk’s ownership of the platform.)
Granted, there are certainly reasons why a parent might want to use the Cybertruck as their family transport; that said, it’s also probably best to choose a vehicle that doesn’t have a history of lacerations behind it for such tasks. Kudos to the team at Toyota of Hattiesburg, then, for making people chuckle while also capitalizing on the popularity of Tesla's slab-sided electric pickup to bring parents in the door.
