A small, heavy-duty, no-frills rockhopper with a quirky retro design, the FJ Cruiser exists to be driven off-road, and almost entirely off-road. Though it handles streets and highways fine, the FJ is an uncompromising backwoodsman and it has no real place in civilized company. In an era where too many cars try to be all things to all customers, you have to admire a specialized vehicle like the FJ. It makes no pretense toward family comfort or hipster amenities. Instead, upper trim packages offer things like an inclinometer, compass, off-road tires, and aluminum scuff plates. A bright color palette and squared-off front makes the FJ look like a road warrior from a 1970s cartoon. This is one of the most uniquely fun cars around. See more... See Less

Reviews and Ratings
Overall
Pros Cons
Driving dynamics - overall drives beautiful & very easy to park Poor handling on highway in windy conditions - roof rack.
Storage & space - comfortable & roomy - tons of cargo space Rear visibility, location of oil filter & filter style
Performance during acceleration from stop Driving range between fuel stops: needs bigger tank
Passing power at highway speeds Visibility - side visibility is limited
Quality of powertrain: engine, transmission, suspension are very solid Should have option of 2 wheel drive with standard manual transmission
Wheels look awesome in black - the tires are grippy & stable. Need cargo door to be a power liftgate
Cool looks of vehicle exterior, including large side mirrors, wipers Driver's seat could be a little wider
I love the feel of this vehicle on the road: steady and sure. Seats could have been leather for cost of vehicle
Stereo - the vehicle has great sound Fold down seats do not go flat: slight incline
The upgraded shocks make even dirt roads a smooth ride Mpg - 6 cylinder, 4wd tops out at 20 mpg highway
