In the market for an 05-06 Ford GT, but want something a bit more special? We have just the car for you. It's a GTX1, one of just 38 examples modified by coachbuilder Genaddi Design Group. A targa-top convertible version of the GT, it does away with the weird roof-integrated doors and allows for an open-top driving experience.
The GTX1 conversion was authorized and sponsored by Ford from the outset, available as a $38,000 option from the dealer. According to Ford Authority, Kip Ewing, a senior engineer for the GT, and Hau Thai-Tang, then-head of Ford's SVT division, contributed to the conversion's design, ensuring the car would still ride and handle as intended with the roof deleted. In place of the normal roof is a three-piece manually removable hard top. There's also a stowable soft top in case you get caught out in the rain.
This particular GTX1 is the sixth built, with just 1755 miles on the clock. In addition to the roof mods, this GT has also been treated to a reduced-diameter pulley, an Accufab X-pipe exhaust, and a tune. Judging by the photos, it looks to be in excellent condition.
The car is listed for sale right now at RK Motors, a dealership in Charlotte, North Carolina, for $595,900. That's a fair bit more than your average low-mileage GT, yes, but considering how rare and special that roof is, we're not too surprised by that number.
Would you pay nearly double the price of a normal 05-06 Ford GT for the chance to own this one? Let us know in the comments.
