Video: 12 Cars Involved in First-Lap Crash at Brickyard NASCAR Xfinity Race
A 12-car wreck on the first lap of Saturday’s Pennzoil 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway sidelined Josh Berry and Sam Mayer and left several other drivers with damaged vehicles to wrestle around the 2.5-mile track.
The wreck occurred in turn three when Mayer spun in the middle of the field after contact with the side of A.J. Allmendinger’s Chevrolet. Others involved in the accident were Jesse Love, Jeremy Clements, Sammy Smith, Parker Retzlaff, Jeb Burton, Chandler Smith, Conor Daly, Kyle Sieg, and Joe Graf Jr. After the accident, Burton said the steering on his Chevrolet was two inches to the right.

“Obviously a really crappy way to go on off-weeks,” said Mayer, who has won two races this year but was 10th in the regular season driver standings entering the event. “I’m frustrated.”
“The guy on the outside is the first one to say, ‘Don’t be too aggressive.’”
Mayer and Berry finished 37th and 38th, respectively.
The Indianapolis race is the last one before a three-week break for the Xfinity Series. The series returns to action Aug. 17 at Michigan International Speedway.
