A driver in Orange County, California captured on video a man clinging to the back of a semi-truck on the southbound 57 Freeway recently. In the footage, the man tries cautiously touching one foot to the ground after lowering himself from the trailer, only he ends up falling hard onto his chest. That’s gotta hurt.

Runaway gravel truck causes chaos in Utah.

The incident, which took place on the morning of November 15, happened right before the 91 interchange. According to KTLA, no information about who the man was, his condition, or why he was hanging onto the back of the truck’s trailer was available.

When KTLA reached out to California Highway Patrol, the law enforcement agency said it received no reports about someone falling off a big rig on the freeway. Instead, it said that morning some calls came in about someone jumping onto a semi-truck near the Orangethorpe exit. Was that the same person or is this sort of thing more common than most people realize?

We’ve seen videos recently of people opening up the back of semi-trucks, shipping containers on trains, etc. to steal items inside. In fact, a FedEx truck was looted at an intersection in Memphis, Tennessee recently. An Amazon semi-truck was opened up and the content stolen at a street takeover event in Sacramento, California back in July.

Is this video of a man hanging off a semi-truck in Orange County an attempted heist gone wrong? Was the person trying to steal the goods before the big rig got up to freeway speeds? That could explain the guy’s desperation in getting off the trailer and why nothing was reported to police. His accomplices might have been following in a vehicle behind and scooped up whatever was left of the would-be thief before taking off.

Check out the video for yourself.
