Sunday’s IndyCar Series race on the streets of Toronto was red-flagged 12 laps from the finish because of a brutal crash that sent Santino Ferrucci’s car flying into a catch fence and landing on its side in the middle of the track.

There apparently were no significant injuries in the multi-car wreck.

The race, won by Colton Herta, was stopped after the lap 73 crash scattered cars and car parts across the track.

The incident began when Pato O’Ward lost control of his car and slid into the fence. Marcus Ericsson slowed but ran into O’Ward’s car. Ferrucci roared into the turn and hit O’Ward’s car, launching Ferrucci’s A.J. Foyt Racing entry into the catch fence. It bounced onto the track and came to rest on its side. Ferrucci almost immediately radioed team members that he was okay.

Several other cars also were swept into the accident.
