Video: Violent Dodge Charger Crash Takes Out Gas Station Canopy and Pump
The driver of a Dodge Charger and his teenage daughter were taken to the hospital after crashing into a North Carolina gas station on Saturday. The crash was so violent that it took down the gas station canopy and one of the pumps ended up lodged in the car. It may take months before the gas pumps can reopen, WFMY News 2 reports.
The crash occurred a little after 9 p.m. on Saturday at the Pantry Shop in Greensboro, North Carolina. Surveillance video shows a Dodge Charger approaching the gas station at a high rate of speed. The car then drives head-on into one of the canopy support pillars and a gas pump. The crash caused severe damage to the car and caused gas to spray everywhere.
Luckily, a doctor and his friend happened to be on the scene picking up snacks when the crash occurred, WFMY News 2 reports. The doctor rendered aid to the driver and his teenage daughter. The friend went into the store to have them shut off the pumps. The doctor noted that the driver was disoriented from the crash and was bleeding heavily. The passenger had a broken leg that was pinned under the seat. He helped to extract her and get her away from the gasoline-soaked car.
The gas station owner said that the convenience store remains open, however, the gas pumps are the main source of income. It could be months before they can reopen. Replacing one pump could cost as much as $25,000. Regulars of the store have reportedly been going in to check on the owner and to buy items in a show of support.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. It is unclear if the driver will face any charges.
