The BMW M5 is breaking new ground with its latest generation—both in terms of powertrain and physical size.
The latest iteration of the M5 is the largest to date.
Compared with its predecessor, this supersedan is 4.2 inches longer, 2.7 inches wider, 1.4 inches taller, and rides on a wheelbase that's been stretched 0.9 inch.
Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 making 577 horsepower.
However, it combines with an electric motor for a net output of 717 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque.
The e-motor is integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission.
Its 14.8-kWh battery is estimated to give the driver enough juice to drive 25 electric-only miles on a single charge.
