Luxury goods unlikely to be next target of China's EU trade retaliation, analysts say
European luxury shares have slid on investor concerns that Hermes handbags and Dior slingbacks may be Beijing's next targets for retaliation, following the EU's decision to slap tariffs on China EVs, but analysts say such a move is unlikely. Is it going to go after luxury goods? So far, moves by China in the ongoing tit-for-tat trade spat with the EU have targeted brandy, pork and dairy, all of which are major industries for France, which lobbied for tariffs on Chinese-made EVs imported into the EU.

Add another item for new Nike (NKE) CEO Elliott Hill to fix: winning back teens who have moved on to other brands for sneakers and apparel. According to the latest 'Taking Stock With Teens' survey from Piper Sandler, the Nike brand and its Jordan sneakers were cited in the top five trends that are "on the way out" among males. The survey went on to find Nike is losing "mindshare" with teens, especially female teens. The survey showed that the top apparel trend at the moment is streetwear, a category that Nike historically hasn't done well in. Interestingly, Nike's stock has given up all the gains since it announced on September 19 that veteran Nike executive Elliott Hill was returning to the company as CEO, replacing the embattled John Donahoe.
