The Chevy Trax is new for 2024, and it's a completely different vehicle that it was before. Longer, lower, and wider, it's also significantly cheaper than its predecessor. It starts at $21,495, and even the higher trim levels come in below $25,000.
The new Trax has a completely different shape than before, and we like its new wagon-esque styling.
The Trax is still a subcompact crossover, but now it comes only with front-wheel drive, ditching the previous all-wheel-drive option.
The Trax now competes with other affordable crossovers such as the Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Soul.
It's available in several trim levels, including base LS, mid-level LT, the rugged-looking Activ, and the sportier-looking RS.
All of the trim levels are mechanically identical but feature styling differences.
A turbocharged 1.2-liter inline-three with 137 horsepower is the only engine choice.
The LT model is on the left, the RS is in the middle, and the Activ trim level is on the right.
A six-speed automatic transmission is standard equipment, and while it can be sluggish, we still prefer it to a CVT.
While the Trax is front-wheel drive only, Chevy offers a second subcompact crossover, the taller and more expensive Chevy Trailblazer, that offers all-wheel drive as an option.
The Trax offers 26 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.
