The second-generation Hyundai Kona Electric expands its footprint but still lacks the panache of its award-winning siblings.
The 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric is much larger than its predecessor.
Compared to the first-gen Kona Electric, this new EV is 5.9 inches longer, 1.0 inch wider, and has a 2.3-inch-longer wheelbase.
That expanded wheelbase means rear-seat legroom grows an impressive 3.0 inches, while the cargo hold expands from 19 cubic feet to 26 cubic feet.
The SE model opens the lineup with a new 133-hp electric motor.
Those wishing for a little more vim will likely look to the 201-hp uprated variants.
In our testing, the zippier Kona EV made it to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds, which is 0.6 second slower than the model it replaces. Additional size and weight (98 pounds in this case) do have that side effect.
Our Limited-trim tester comes standard with all manner of creature comforts, like heated and ventilated front seats.
The Kona definitely feels less cheap than it used to.
Then again, our test car stickers for $42,650, so it'd better be nice inside.
