Now in its second generation, the Mercedes-AMG GT63 is no longer its own dedicated creature. This time around, it shares a platform with the SL-class convertible, making it a sort of fixed-roof analogue to the luxurious, zippy droptop.
The Mercedes-AMG GT63 ain't what it used to be, but is that a bad thing?
The AMG GT is now, effectively, a fixed-roof version of the SL-class, with which it shares a platform.
The second-gen GT is 6.7 inches longer, 1.8 inches wider, and 2.6 inches taller than its predecessor.
Its 4245-pound curb weight makes it 546 pounds heavier than the previous generation's base model. Oof.
And yet, the GT63 still performs, reaching 60 mph in an impressive 2.7 seconds, 0.3 second quicker than the droptop SL63.
The GT63's powertrain comprises a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 producing 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.
That heads to all four wheels (yet another second-gen innovation) by way of a nine-speed automatic transmission.
The interior offers so much more space than its predecessor that it nearly feels like a different car.
Farewell, gigantic and annoying center console!
