With the plug-in-hybrid Ramcharger, Ram bridges the gap between its refreshed gas-powered half-ton truck and the upcoming electric Ram 1500 REV. With the PHEV version, owners can avoid range anxiety and take advantage of its 663-hp AWD powertrain.
The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger is different than most plug-in hybrids in that its gas engine only recharges the battery and doesn't power the wheels.
With an electric motor on each axle, the Ramcharger boasts a combined 663 horsepower and 615 pound-feet of torque, which send it from zero to 60 mph in a claimed 4.4 seconds.
Ram estimates its plug-in-hybrid pickup can travel 145 miles on electricity alone with a full battery, and when its gas engine gets involved, a full tank can provide up to 690 miles of combined range.
Along with a max payload capacity of 2625 pounds, the Ramcharger can two up to 14,000 pounds, which is nearly 2400 pounds more than the strongest 2025 Ram 1500.
Not only will the Ramcharger offer fancy upper-class trims, but more affordable models like this Big Horn will also be part of the lineup.
As with the electric Ram 1500 REV, the Ramcharger rides on a unique body-on-frame platform called STLA Frame that features an independent rear suspension.
Ram is known for having the nicest interiors among full-size trucks, and the new plug-in hybrid looks to continue that trend, especially on fancier trims like the one seen here.
Along with an available 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the Ramcharger can be equipped with a 10.3-inch touchscreen that faces the front-seat passenger.
Among the Ramcharger's selectable EV drive modes are Electric+, E-Save, and Eco. Depending on which one is activated will dictate when the truck's gas-engine generator gets involved.
The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger won't go on sale until sometime near the end of next year. We expect it to cost less than the EV model, but it'll almost surely be pricier than the nonhybrid trucks.
