Next year, Volvo is rolling out its smallest EV ever, the EX30.
It doesn't look like a Model 3, but a starting price of $36,145 for the rear-drive 2025 Volvo EX30 certainly begs a comparison.
The single-motor rear-drive EX30 makes 268 horsepower, but the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version delivers a combined 422 horses.
Both configurations share a 64.0-kWh battery pack, which gives the single-motor version some 275 miles of range and the dual-motor version 265 miles of range, according to early Volvo reckoning.
The EX30 has the chunky proportions of a slightly lifted VW Golf.
The Volvo EX30 is based on a Chinese Geely platform that was tuned by Volvo engineers to deliver a Swede ride.
Though we've gone for a ride in the EX-30, we haven't yet driven one, so we can't report on how it drives until we get closer to its introduction date in the first half of 2024.
A large central touchscreen and molded-in AC vents create a simple yet intriguing interior environment.
The driver-monitoring sensors atop the steering-wheel-horn pad hint at a meaningful hands-free driving mode.
Though it does stand tall, its broad track and expansive taillight array emphasize its width and downplay its height.
