Maybach, Mercedes-Benz's ultraluxury division, is making its first foray into the two-seater class with the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach 680SL Monogram Series. The current Maybach lineup consists of large vehicles, sumptuous versions of the S-class sedan, GLS SUV, and EQS EV SUV. That same formula has been applied to the Mercedes-AMG SL63 roadster with the aim of transforming it from a racy sports car to a plush grand-touring convertible. To that end, the company has lavished the SL with styling revisions, its own distinctive paint schemes, interior tweaks, and changes to the underpinnings.

The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series retains the voluptuous Mercedes-AMG SL63's sheetmetal and embellishes it with new front and rear fascias, a Maybach grille, splashes of chrome trim, and Maybach-specific 21-inch wheels.

The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series will be available in only two color combos at launch: Red Ambience (metallic red) and White Ambience (bright white)—both with a black hood.

The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680 retains the AMG SL63's 577-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, nine-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive system.

The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680's suspension has been retuned for a softer ride, says the company, while the sound level has been dialed down with added sound-deadening insulation and a new, quieter exhaust system.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL680's standard cloth convertible top comes imprinted with dozens of Maybach logos, a design not dissimilar to that on Louis Vuitton's most famous handbag.

Just two color schemes: Besides metallic red paint (called Red Ambience by Maybach), the 2026 SL680 will be available in bright white (called, naturally enough, White Ambience). All SL680s have a black hood, but like the car shown here, the hood can be custom-painted with the same pattern of Maybach logos that comes standard on the cloth convertible top.

The basic design of the 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680's interior is similar to the AMG SL63's. All SL680 cabins come dressed in white nappa leather, with almost every surface wrapped in the supple hides. The portrait-style center touchscreen runs the Mercedes MBUX infotainment system.

The 2026 Mercedes-AMG SL63's buckets received extra padding to make them plusher for the Maybach version of the SL. They also get a special Maybach leather design and Mercedes's Airscarf: vents at the base of the headrests that can blow warm air on your neck to help keep you toasty during top-down cold-weather drives.

Many of the car's functions can be controlled through either the center screen or via touch-sensitive switches on the three-spoke wheel. We've found those haptic wheel switches fussy to use in other Mercedes vehicles.

The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach SL680 Monogram Series gets its own graphics in the digital instrument cluster to go along with the many Maybach logos sprinkled through the interior.

To give the SL680 some additional visual differentiation from the more prosaic Mercedes-AMG SL, Maybach created a hard black tonneau cover behind the seats that incorporates subtle fairings.

When the sun goes down, the Maybach name in the SL680's new grille lights up to announce your arrival.
