Volvo has worked hard the past couple years to shed their image of being boring, beige and boxy. The stubby little C30 hatchback was a good argument against that image with its aggressive styling and powerful turbocharged engine. All C30s come standard with a 227 horsepower Inline-5 powering the front wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed Geartronic automatic. Available in regular and sport-tuned R-Design models the C30 can be had in Premier, Premier Plus and Platinum trim levels offering upgrades like navigation and a premium 10-speaker 650-watt stereo as you tick the option boxes. To spice things up from the rest of the range The C30's prominent aesthetic feature is an all-glass tailgate running from roof to bumper for excellent rearward visibility. Pros Cons
Rear end styling - what first attracted me to the vehicle Very low mpg, less than 18 combined, less than 15 city
When shifting gears / speeds, very smooth for a stick - shift The fabric of the seats seems to have a slight odor
Passing power at high speeds - very quick & accelerates well Rear arm rest doesnt move & it should to give extra room
Handling-car handles well in weather and turning The doors are very large and heavy
Front end appearance - just great looking vehicle Very hard on bumps - you really feel them
The design of the steering wheel for comfort when driving Manual movement of front seats from top is difficult
Safety - this was important in purchase Power passenger seats: manual adjustment is easier and quicker
Love the quick pick-up & normal transmission Back hatch opening is to small, needs to be same width as back of car
Over-all high quality of vehicle, pleasure to drive Traction control cannot be disengaged
Safety features - so many air bags for safety and visibity is great The glove box needs to be bigger
