2015 Volvo XC70

Up to 17 MPG city / 24 MPG hwy
$35,400 - $45,650

To combat America's disdain for utility vehicles that aren't of the 'Sport' persuasion, Volvo took an S80 station wagon, raised the suspension, put some thick black plastic on it and called it a Crossover. The same two 6-cylinder engines from the S80 are offered in this wagon-bodied variant, both available with AWD. Clever packaging in the cabin includes a 40/20/40 split rear bench, versus the more common 60/40, allowing for more seating configurations to accommodate people and their gear. A fold flat front passenger seat also means longer cargo like surfboards can run the length of the car. Other than the extended cabin that more than quadruples the S80's maximum cargo to 72.1 cu ft, the XC70 also gains 2.4 inches in ground clearance for a total 8.3 inches, which is just .3 inches off range topping XC90. Adamant on being a real off-roader, the boxy bruiser's T6 AWD model comes standard with Hill Descent control, the system that applies brake power to each individual wheel on steep descents allowing the driver to focus entire on steering down through any obstacle. Rugged storage area covers and dividers are available as accessories, but the interior remains largely unchanged from the luxury sedan donor car. See more... See Less
