  • Volvo will provide owners of its 2025-model-year electric vehicles a NACS adapter that will allow them to charge on Tesla's Supercharger network.

  • The adapter will come with the purchase of a 2025 EX90, EX40, or EC40.

  • Owners of older Volvo EVs can buy the adapter for $230 through authorized Volvo dealerships, with shipments beginning November 18.

Most automakers have announced that their future electric vehicles will soon begin uusing the North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports popularized by Tesla, but the rollout won't be immediate. In the meantime, car companies are offering owners of existing EVs—which have the older CCS-style charge ports—adapters that will still allow them to plug into Tesla's Supercharger network.

While Volvo aims to start incorporating the NACS port into their EVs in 2025, the Swedish automaker has now announced that it will provide a NACS adapter for buyers of its 2025 model EVs starting later this year.

Volvo says the adapter will allow EV owners to utilize more than 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations in the United States and Canada. The adapter will be included with the purchase of any Volvo EV for the 2025 model year, which includes the new EX90 flagship, the compact EX40, and the EC40. The NACS adapters will also be available for purchase to drivers of Volvo electric cars from before the 2025 model year and can be ordered through Volvo dealerships in the United States and Canada. The adapter will cost $230 and will start being shipped to customers on November 18.

For shoppers interested in buying the Volvo EX30, the automaker says details about the availability of the adapter will be announced later. The EX30 was supposed to arrive this year as the entry point to the brand's electric lineup, with the tiny SUV carrying a $36,245 starting price. But in June, Volvo announced that the EX30 won't arrive until 2025. The delay is likely the result of the United States imposing a 100 percent tariff on electric vehicles built in China. Volvo hasn't said when exactly the EX30 will go on sale in the United States but aims to begin deliveries at some point next year.
