Want to be in Sylvester Stallone's Oklahoma show? Extras sought for 'Tulsa' project

Oklahomans who want to appear in Sylvester Stallone's upcoming television series are getting their first chance.

According to a casting call from Norman-based Freihofer Casting, the search for the first round of background performers and extras is underway for what's being called the "Untitled Tulsa Project" TV series, set to begin filming soon in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

The Stallone starring vehicle is a planned Paramount+ series created by Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind the hit streaming shows "Yellowstone," "1883" and "Mayor of Kingstown."

Initially named "Kansas City," the series is now titled "The Tulsa King," according to a recent promotional video announcing the show.

Expected to debut in fall 2022, the "Tulsa" streaming series centers on Dwight “The General” Manfredi (Stallone), a 75-year-old mobster who is released home to New York after serving a 25-year prison sentence for murder. He is quickly and unceremoniously banished by his former boss' son to set up shop in Tulsa.

"He has to now start a new life, create a gang — because they want him to be an earner — and that's where the fun begins," Stallone said in the video announcing the series.

Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell recently confirmed on Twitter that the show will be filmed throughout the Sooner State, calling it "a big win for Oklahoma's growing film industry."

The series boasts Terence Winter ("Boardwalk Empire," "Vinyl," "The Sopranos") as showrunner. Joseph Incaprera ("The Walking Dead," "13 Reasons Why," "American Horror Story") is co-executive producing for Paramount+.

The "Tulsa" series is considered Stallone's first big lead role in a TV show. Over the course of his long career, the three-time Oscar nominee has guest-starred on a number of television series — including "Kojak," "Police Story," "The Muppet Show," "Las Vegas" and "This Is Us" — but he is primarily known for his many cinematic credits, particularly in action movies.

"I want to go get movie stars; an opportunity to work with someone like Stallone, it just follows this model," Sheridan said in the promo video.

Sheridan's other streaming shows star the likes of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill ("1883"), Jeremy Renner ("Mayor of Kingstown") and Kevin Costner ("Yellowstone").

Pay for background performers on the "Tulsa" project is a guarantee of $100 for up to 10 hours of filming. Anything over 10 hours on a shoot day will incur overtime.

A free, pre-engagement COVID-19 test is required prior to filming. For more information, check out the casting call at https://www.facebook.com/FreihoferCasting.
