Watch as Daniel Suárez's Bumper is Set Ablaze after Daytona Pit Stop
Daniel Suárez was forced to retire from the Coca-Cola 400 after his No. 99 Chevrolet caught on fire on pit row Saturday evening.
During the first pit stop of the evening, the No. 99 team spilled a small amount of fuel that was lit by a backfire that came off of the pipes of the No. 11 of Denny Hamlin in the pit stall behind Suárez.

Suárez exited his pit stall with his back bumper aflame. Since the No. 99 driver elects to drive with only a rear-facing camera and not a rear-view mirror, he was unable to see the fire as he took a lap around the track. But he could feel it.
"It was a very weird feeling because I don't run a rear-view mirror anymore," Suárez explained to NBC Sports. "I only run a rear-view camera, and the camera is mounted on the rear bumper. I can feel the heat on my back, but I can't see it. I was trying to go fast to calm down the fire, but by the time I got here [Suárez points to the entry of pit row], I could feel a lot of heat."

Suárez and the No. 99 team can reenter the race since there was no accident or contact. Technically, the fire counts as a mechanical failure per NASCAR's rule. The No. 99 team has stated that they will not be returning, presumably with the damage too much to fix, and their driver safely in the playoffs with his win earlier this year at Atlanta.
