From Road & Track

For years now, Mazda has offered the MX-5 Cup as a track-only competition version of its MX-5 road car for those looking to compete in wheel-to-wheel races. Fiat, makers of the 124 Spider, which is based on the Miata, hasn't offered anything similar-up until now, that is.

It seems Fiat is entering the race car arena with a new GT4-class race car based on its 124 Abarth Spider. The car, which itself is based on the current MX-5, was recently spotted testing at Monza circuit in Italy by YouTuber MattyB727. Clad in camouflage wrapping and sporting a bunch of heavy-duty aerodynamic accessories, it can be seen taking the track in anger below.

According to Sportscar365, the production version of the 124 Abarth GT4 is rumored to debut in next year's Italian GT Championship. As for what sort of powertrain it might use, the video's description suggests a 380-horsepower 1.4-liter turbo four sourced out of the Alfa Romeo 4C lies under the hood-though that's yet to be confirmed.
