There are definitely some cars out there one would be hard-pressed to use effectively in a police chase. The Toyota Camry isn’t one of those, but it honestly isn’t the best option out there, especially a four-cylinder model. But, as you’ll clearly see in this Arkansas State Police dashcam footage, it’s not the car that matters most but the person behind the wheel.

Watch a dump truck help end a police chase.

The first clear indication the trooper had that this suspect wasn’t going to go down easily was the fact they spotted the ASP cruiser and immediately slowed down, getting behind it. Of course, the trooper notices this and pulls onto the shoulder, forcing the Camry to pass.

That’s when the second sign this isn’t going to be a walk in the park chase comes into focus. The Toyota has a paper tag that’s unreadable. Only people who are ready, willing, and usually capable sport such a thing on their ride.

This suspect is all three and it shows immediately. Before the trooper even turns on his lights, the Camry speeds off, exits the highway, then gets back on without skipping a beat. We guarantee this driver has run from police before.

With a fair amount of traffic on the highway, the driver deftly shoots gaps and gets around slower cars, outpacing the trooper. Like we said, this suspect is a pro and they’re not letting up at all.

Gaining an edge, the Camry driver gets off the highway again and takes several turns rapidly, disappearing from the trooper’s view. While the trooper tries as hard as he can to catch up, it’s just not happening.

Eventually, the trooper admits defeat as he’s obviously chasing a ghost. This pursuit just goes to show even with a mediocre car, a skilled driver can outrun someone in a vehicle that’s pushing more performance.
