We're Ready For Jodie Foster in 'True Detective: Night Country'
True Detective: Night Country is coming soon, people. After months of uncertainty, we can confirm the thrilling series will return next year. On Wednesday, HBO released the official trailer for Season Four, and from the looks of things, it’s the most complex mystery thus far. Check it out above.
In the new season of True Detective, eight men working at a research center suddenly vanish in Alaska. Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Keli Reis) are hired to find them, but in order to solve the mystery, they have to unravel the town's dark history along with their own twisted past. According to the official HBO logline, the duo will "confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
True Detective: Night Country stars none other than former Esquire intern, Jodie Foster, as Detective Danvers. The HBO series has always employed an impressive cast, featuring actors such as Matthew McConaughey, Rachel McAdams, Woody Harrelson, and Mahershala Ali. It only makes sense that Foster was tapped to lead the next leg of the show. Who better to track down a criminal than FBI Agent Clarice Starling?
The next season premieres on January 14. Until then, read on for everything we know about True Detective: Night Country.
True Detective: Night Country Features a Workplace Rivalry
In the teaser for Season Four, Detectives Danvers and Navarro have a clear disdain for each other. In one clip one of their coworkers is heard gossiping about their dynamic. "I don't know what they're doing together," the voice says, "I thought they hated each other." Now, I don't know what beef these two have (we'll find out soon!), but they seem willing to put it behind them in order to solve the case. Earlier this year, HBO dropped an image of the two detectives in action, looking very, very cold and gazing at... something. Check out the photo below.
True Detective: Night Country Features a Brand-New Production Team
Nic Pizzolatto, the original creator of True Detective, is not working on this season. True Detective: Night Country is helmed by Issa López (Tigers Are Not Afraid) and Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) is executive producing as well. Aside from Foster and Reis, the cast includes John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Anna Lambe, Aka Niviâna, Isabella Star Lablanc, and Joel D. Montgrand.
True Detective: Night Country Premieres on HBO
True Detective: Night Country is exclusive to HBO, meaning it will premiere on the streamer. On January 14t, HBO will drop the premiere episode. In the meantime, you can catch up on the last three seasons.
