Volkswagen seems to be the make of choice among many hillclimb racers, but it's not often we see something other than a Golf attacking the closed road courses of Europe. This Scirocco hillclimb car is refreshingly different, but looks just as astonishingly quick.

Hillclimb Monsters captured this 1741-pound Mk1 Scirocco going up the hill at the Austrian Hillclimb Championship event recently, and it's one of the meanest VW's we've seen. Equipped with a 200-horsepower, 9000-rpm redline 2.0-liter four-cylinder, it's able to claw its way up the taped-off mountain twists with ease.

The widebody fenders, super-wide wheels, along with numerous wings, scoops, and spoilers allow this Scirocco to take turns at an alarmingly high rate of speed, and the sequential transmission means the driver doesn't have to worry about missing a shift.

Watch for yourself as the high-strung VW hatch attacks the hills of Austria. And please, put on some headphones.
