Woman Hits State Trooper Inside A Car Wash

A Colorado woman is fuming after she was issued a $169 ticket all because she tapped the back bumper of a state trooper’s patrol car in a car wash. Footage of the incident shows she was going incredibly slow, resulting in virtually no damage to either vehicle, so she feels the ticket was unnecessary.
Guy runs from a trooper on his crotch rocket and gets a nice little love tap.
In fact, the woman turned to an investigative reporter with 9News because she was so upset. In an interview, she talks about how her late husband always took care of their vehicles. Since he’s no longer around, she was unfamiliar with a drive-through car wash and didn’t realize she needed to leave her transmission in neutral, not drive.
Speaking with an official with Colorado State Patrol, the reporter clarified that even though the slight collision happened on private property, the trooper was well within his rights to issue a ticket for careless driving.
In fact, bodycam footage obtained by 9News shows the trooper and his colleague looking up the law and making sure the trooper who was hit could write a citation. However, the other trooper seemed to be trying to talk him out of actually issuing it.
And that’s the real rub here: with both vehicles barely damaged, an old woman who was clearly struggling, did the trooper really have to sock her with a fine and points on her license?
Sometimes cops can be jaded and rather uncaring about people’s situations. They hear so many sob stories when they pull people over, it’s easy to see why. But this case is some pretty bad PR for Colorado State Patrol.
While you could say the woman didn’t follow the clear instructions at the car wash, which we have seen result in some serious accidents, there isn’t even a little bit of leniency here. We expect some will agree with CSP’s decision and others will be pretty fired up about this.
